Porting your mobile number to another telecom provider is a fairly straightforward process, but there are some new guidelines you should be aware of:

Steps to Port Your Number

  1. Generate Unique Porting Code (UPC):
    • SMS PORT <your mobile number> to 1900.
    • You’ll receive a UPC which is valid for 15 days (30 days for J&K, Assam, and North East).
  2. Submit Documents:
    • Visit the nearest store of the new telecom provider.
    • Submit the UPC along with required documents (ID proof, address proof, and photograph).
  3. Select Plan:
    • Choose a plan from the new provider’s offerings.
    • Complete the customer application form (CAF).
  4. Verification:
    • Your new provider will verify the documents and process the porting request.
    • You will receive a confirmation SMS from your new provider.
  5. SIM Activation:
    • Your existing SIM will remain active during the porting process.
    • The new SIM will be activated within 2-4 working days.

New Guidelines

  • Lock-in Period: You must use the current network for at least 90 days before porting.
  • Outstanding Payments: Ensure all dues are cleared with the existing provider.
